question is, could it retain AWD? Because that really would make it a whole lot more fun to hoon. It would be one hell of an expensive driveshaft going all the way to the rear, haha.

I've never really worked on a car based AWD vehicle but I assume the drive shafts aren't any different from truck 4x4 shafts or RWD car shafts.

Yeah, when I saw one of the systems at the autoshow 2-3 years ago they had a shaft coming off the fwd transmission, connected to a clutch, that would engage under certain conditions.
